A Divers Sixty-Five is not automatically the better Oris for a small wrist. The bronze Sepia examined here measures 38mm across, while the current Aquis Date is available in 36.5mm. That alone does not decide comfort, but it removes the assumption that the vintage-looking family must always be the smaller choice.

Reference 01 733 7771 3154-07 8 19 15 adds another decision that matters just as much as size: a bronze case and bracelet. Choose it because you want that material’s evolving appearance with a black dial, rather than because “Divers Sixty-Five” sounds like a guarantee of slimness.

The vintage idea has developed in several directions

Oris introduced its first dive watch in 1965 and revived that design idea in 2015, a sequence the brand sets out in its account of the Divers family. The Sixty-Five name points to those origins, but the modern collection has expanded through different colours, materials and dimensions. Cotton Candy brought the idea into a more playful territory, including bronze watches; the black-dial Sepia gives that material a quieter partner. Later Divers Date models also carry their own updated specifications, so the historical family connection should not be used to transfer ratings between references. The 38mm bronze watch here is a particular contemporary interpretation, with a date display and modern sapphire crystal beneath its older visual cues.

The exact bronze Sepia

The official UK page lists the following and showed £2,500 when checked. The current movement is 733-1 with 41 hours of reserve; older listings for other 733-equipped watches should not overwrite it.

Make the Aquis comparison specific

The black Aquis Date 01 733 7792 4154-07 8 19 05P measures 36.5mm and uses a steel case and bracelet with a ceramic timing-bezel insert. Its 30-bar rating exceeds the Sepia’s 10 bar, while the current 733-1 movement and 41-hour reserve give the two a useful common starting point. Oris listed this Aquis at £2,200 in the UK at the check.

Those differences answer different needs. A smaller case diameter may favour the Aquis for one wrist, while the shape of the case and bracelet may favour the Sixty-Five for another. The cited pages do not publish thickness or lug-to-lug measurements for these references, so neither an exact slimness claim nor a promised fit follows from the official numbers alone.

Try both with bracelets sized sensibly. Look at how the first links turn around the wrist, where the clasp sits and whether either watch tilts as you move. Test cuff clearance and wrist bending. For a small wrist, those details can be more consequential than a 1.5mm difference in diameter.

Bronze is the commitment behind the colour

A bronze bracelet extends the material’s appearance around the wrist instead of confining it to the watch head. That is a large part of the Sepia’s character. The black dial gives the metal a relatively restrained setting, but the metal itself will not remain visually frozen at the colour of a product photograph.

Oris’s patina guidance recommends leaving the natural surface layer in place because it protects the bronze. That makes the model especially suitable for someone who likes an object to change with use. If you expect to keep restoring an as-new appearance, consider whether steel is a better match before choosing the watch for its initial warm tone.

The stainless-steel back is a distinct part of the construction, so describing the watch as entirely bronze would be inaccurate. When considering another strap, use the published 19mm lug width and confirm compatibility with the actual case. A different strap can change the wearing experience considerably, but it also changes the visual unity that makes the bracelet version distinctive.

Using the watch rather than preserving an idea of it

The automatic movement and date window give the Sepia a familiar daily routine. Regular wear helps maintain its reserve; a longer break may require restarting and setting. Oris’s calendar guidance advises avoiding the quick-date function between 21:00 and 03:00. Learn that routine before the first short month arrives.

Water resistance depends on the condition of the watch, so keep the crown properly secured and arrange checks as part of its care. The reserve and pressure numbers describe different capabilities: neither tells you how well a particular bracelet fits or whether you prefer the changing surface of bronze.

Choose this 38mm Sixty-Five when the case fits and the bronze bracelet is a positive reason to own it. Choose the 36.5mm Aquis if its steel construction, smaller diameter and stronger water-resistance rating better meet your needs. The useful answer for a small wrist comes from those two exact watches, not from a blanket ranking of the collection names.
