The word “Large” can mislead anyone approaching the Tank Must from round sports watches. The WSTA0136 is a compact rectangle whose appeal depends on proportion, an uncluttered time display and the ease of quartz ownership. Its size label is a position within Cartier’s range, not a promise of a large presence on your wrist.
For this reference, Cartier specifies a steel case, silvered dial, blue hands and black grained calfskin strap. The movement is described as High Autonomy quartz. Keep that reference and movement description together when comparing shops, because similar Tank photographs can accompany different configurations. Cartier’s official WSTA0136 listing.

Understand the rectangle before choosing a size
Comparing the Tank’s 25.5 mm width directly with a round watch’s diameter is not very helpful. The length, straight sides and strap create a different outline. At the same time, the low stated thickness suggests a promising starting point if fitting under a sleeve matters to you. Both are reasons for an in-person comparison, not a substitute for one.
Try the neighbouring Tank sizes alongside this one if available. Look at your whole arm in a mirror as well as straight down at the watch. A close photograph can make a small object fill the frame and obscure its actual proportions. Decide whether you want the case to sit quietly within the wrist or occupy more of it.
Check the strap at the hole you would actually use. If it is between comfortable settings, ask Cartier about suitable strap lengths before accepting a compromise. The buckle position and the amount of spare strap affect the finished fit, particularly on a narrow wrist.
What quartz contributes
The useful attraction here is readiness. A functioning quartz watch does not need daily winding or regular wear to maintain its power. That suits someone who switches between watches or mainly wears a dress watch for particular occasions. You can appreciate the case and dial without also wanting a mechanical winding routine.
The tradeoff is a different kind of ownership involvement. If watching a seconds hand, inspecting a visible movement or winding a crown is part of what you enjoy about watches, this two-hand configuration may not provide enough of that interest. Establish whether the design itself is the attraction before using movement complexity as a measure of value.
Do not turn “High Autonomy” into a personal battery-life guarantee. Ask for the model-specific guidance and replacement procedure at purchase. Battery life, remaining charge in an individual watch and the eventual cost of service are separate questions.
Readability is personal
The display has a relatively simple job: hours and minutes. Test that simplicity at your normal reading distance. The apparent colour and contrast of polished blue hands can change with the angle and lighting, so inspect them under ordinary indoor conditions as well as under a retailer’s bright lights. We have not performed a legibility or low-light test.
Also consider what is absent from your usual routine. If you reach for a watch to check the date or time short tasks precisely, a two-hand display leaves those jobs to another device. For someone who only needs a quick sense of the time, those omissions may be entirely welcome.
Leather and water set the everyday limits
Cartier advises keeping leather straps away from water and other liquids because contact accelerates wear. It also recommends regular checks of water resistance as seals age. That makes the supplied strap an important part of deciding when to wear this Tank, independently of the case’s 3 bar rating. Cartier’s daily care recommendations.
Budget for strap replacement and professional battery work. Cartier describes its quartz battery service as replacing the battery and seals, with water resistance restored through the service. Request a current local quotation for your watch rather than treating a price from another country as a UK estimate. Cartier’s explanation of watch servicing.
Verdict
The WSTA0136 suits a buyer who wants a slim rectangular watch, appreciates a two-hand display and values the convenience of quartz. Choose it after comparing the actual Tank sizes and confirming the strap fit. If your intended use regularly involves water or rough activity, include that in the fitting discussion.
